Description
Overview of the medicine
Deplex 5 mg Syrup is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes. It also acts as an appetite stimulant, commonly prescribed for weight gain in children and adults who have poor eating habits.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adults: 2 mg (2 ml) to 4 mg (4 ml) three to four times a day. Maximum daily dose should not exceed 0.5 mg/kg.
Elderly
Elderly: Start with a lower dose (e.g., 2 mg twice daily) and adjust according to response and tolerability.
Renal_impairment
Renal impairment: Use with caution, reduced dosage may be necessary.
How to Take
Oral administration. Administer with food or milk to minimize gastric upset. Use a calibrated measuring spoon or cup provided with the syrup for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Cyproheptadine is a serotonin and H1-histamine antagonist. It competes with histamine for H1-receptor sites on effector cells, thereby preventing histamine-mediated allergic reactions. Its appetite stimulant effect is thought to be related to its serotonin antagonistic properties in the hypothalamus.
