Description
Overview of the medicine
Desloratadine is a non-sedating antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and hives. It is an active metabolite of loratadine.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg once daily.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is generally required, but caution should be exercised.
Renal_impairment
For patients with severe renal impairment, a starting dose of 5 mg every other day is recommended.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine is a long-acting, non-sedating, selective peripheral histamine H1-receptor antagonist. It inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells and basophils and blocks the H1 receptors, thereby alleviating allergic symptoms.

Approximately 87% of the dose is excreted in urine and feces within 10 days.
