Description
Overview of the medicine
Dexamin-01 Eye Drop is an ophthalmic solution containing Dexamethasone, a potent corticosteroid. It is used to reduce inflammation, swelling, redness, and itching associated with various eye conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac 4-6 times daily. Dosage should be tapered gradually as inflammation subsides. Treatment duration should be limited to 2-4 weeks.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, no specific adjustment required.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Wash hands before use. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid, and instill drops into the conjunctival sac. Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye or any surface.
Mechanism of Action
Dexamethasone acts by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators and suppressing the immune response, thereby reducing inflammation, pain, and swelling in the eye.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within hours of administration.
Excretion
Mainly through ocular fluids, with negligible systemic excretion.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical ocular use due to minimal systemic absorption; local action predominates.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after topical ocular administration. Primarily acts locally.
Metabolism
Locally metabolized in the eye, with minimal systemic metabolism.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Acute untreated bacterial, viral, or fungal infections of the eye.
- Hypersensitivity to Dexamethasone or any component of the formulation.
- Glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
- Perforated globe.
Drug Interactions
Systemic Corticosteroids
Increased risk of systemic side effects, although minimal for topical use.
Other Ophthalmic Preparations
If using more than one ophthalmic drug, administer them at least 5 minutes apart.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 25°C). Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose is unlikely with topical ophthalmic administration. If accidentally ingested or excessive amounts are applied, rinse the eye with lukewarm water. Symptomatic and supportive treatment may be required if systemic effects occur, which is rare.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution is advised during lactation as corticosteroids may be excreted in breast milk.
