Description
Overview of the medicine
Dexporil (Dexlansoprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat erosive esophagitis (EE) and non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It reduces stomach acid production.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For healing EE: 60 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks. For maintenance of healed EE and relief of heartburn: 30 mg once daily. For symptomatic non-erosive GERD: 30 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment necessary, but monitor for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Swallow capsule whole; do not chew or crush. If difficulty swallowing, open capsule and sprinkle contents onto a tablespoon of applesauce and swallow immediately.
Mechanism of Action
Dexlansoprazole is an R-enantiomer of lansoprazole. It inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase (proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells, thereby suppressing gastric acid secretion. It has a dual delayed-release formulation allowing for two separate releases of the drug.

Contraindications
