Diasweet 18 mg Tablet contains Glimelagliptin, an oral anti-diabetic medicine used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is typically used in conjunction with diet and exercise.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The recommended dose is 18 mg once daily, taken orally with or without food.
Elderly
No dose adjustment is required based on age, but renal function should be monitored.
Renal_impairment
For mild renal impairment, no dose adjustment is needed. For moderate to severe renal impairment or end-stage renal disease, dose adjustment may be necessary or alternative treatments considered. Consult physician.
How to Take
Take orally once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Glimelagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It increases the levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP) which are responsible for stimulating insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. This leads to improved glycemic control.

Mainly via renal excretion (approximately 80%) with some hepatic/biliary excretion.

Approximately 12-18 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaching peak plasma concentrations within 1-4 hours.

Minimally metabolized; primarily excreted unchanged.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Glimelagliptin or any component of the tablet.
- •Type 1 diabetes mellitus.
- •Diabetic ketoacidosis.
Drug Interactions
Digoxin
May slightly increase digoxin concentrations, monitor digoxin levels.
CYP3A4/5 inhibitors/inducers
No significant interaction expected as Glimelagliptin is minimally metabolized by CYP enzymes.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Management is supportive and symptomatic, including gastric lavage if recent.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding due to lack of data on excretion in human milk.
