Description
Overview of the medicine
Dinosen 2 mg Tablet is an antihistamine primarily used to relieve symptoms of allergies such as runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the skin. It can also be used to treat insomnia and motion sickness due to its sedative properties.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adults: 2 mg (1 tablet) taken orally, 2-3 times daily, or as directed by physician. For insomnia, 2 mg at bedtime.
Elderly
Elderly: Lower doses may be required due to increased sensitivity and potential for adverse effects. Start with 2 mg once daily, preferably at bedtime.
Renal_impairment
Renal impairment: No specific dosage adjustment usually needed, but caution advised. Consider longer dosing intervals or reduced dose if severe impairment.
How to Take
Take Dinosen 2 mg Tablet orally with a glass of water, with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet. For insomnia, take it 30 minutes before bedtime.
Mechanism of Action
Dinosen acts as a first-generation H1-receptor antagonist. It competitively blocks histamine H1 receptors, thereby preventing histamine from binding to these receptors and reducing the effects of histamine such as vasodilation, increased capillary permeability, and itching. It also has significant anticholinergic and sedative effects due to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 15-30 minutes for antihistaminic effects; sedation may occur sooner.
Excretion
Excreted mainly in the urine as metabolites within 24 hours; a small amount is excreted unchanged.
Half life
Approximately 4-8 hours in adults, but can vary.
Absorption
Readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-4 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by the cytochrome P450 system (e.g., CYP2D6) to various inactive metabolites.
