Overview of the medicine
Divanor 10 mg Tablet contains Escitalopram Oxalate, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 10 mg once daily, may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg once daily after at least one week.
Elderly
A lower initial dose (e.g., 5 mg once daily) and slower titration may be considered. Maximum recommended dose is 10 mg/day.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate renal impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment.
Hepatic_impairment
Initial dose 5 mg once daily for mild to moderate hepatic impairment; maximum 10 mg/day.
How to Take
Take orally once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Escitalopram selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) in the central nervous system, thereby increasing the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic cleft and enhancing serotonergic neurotransmission.

Excreted primarily through the urine.

Absorption

Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to escitalopram or any component of the formulation
- •Concomitant use with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing MAOI treatment
- •Concomitant use with pimozide
- •Congenital long QT syndrome or known acquired QT prolongation
Drug Interactions
MAOIs
Serious, sometimes fatal, reactions including serotonin syndrome.
Pimozide
Increased pimozide levels and QT prolongation.
Warfarin
Altered anticoagulant effect, increased bleeding risk.
NSAIDs/Aspirin
Increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Drugs prolonging QT interval
Additive effect on QT interval.
Serotonergic drugs (e.g., triptans, tramadol, other SSRIs)
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include dizziness, tremor, nausea, vomiting, somnolence, tachycardia, and convulsions. Management is symptomatic and supportive; maintain airway, monitor cardiac and vital signs. Activated charcoal may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Escitalopram is excreted in breast milk; caution is advised during breastfeeding.
