Description
Overview of the medicine
Dobelit 500 mg Capsule is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the relief of pain, inflammation, and fever. It effectively treats symptoms associated with conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and various musculoskeletal disorders.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Oral: 500 mg once or twice daily, or as directed by physician. Maximum daily dose should not exceed 1000 mg.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required due to potential renal impairment and increased sensitivity to adverse effects. Start with 500 mg once daily.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dosage reduction may be necessary in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. Avoid in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Dobelit capsule should be taken orally, preferably with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. Do not chew, crush, or break the capsule.
Mechanism of Action
Dobelit acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, particularly COX-1 and COX-2. This inhibition leads to a reduction in the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are key mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Excreted mainly through the urine (approximately 60%) and feces (approximately 30-40%).
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via glucuronidation and hydroxylation.
