Description
Overview of the medicine
Dobesil LD is a medication containing Calcium Dobesilate, primarily used to treat microangiopathies, particularly diabetic retinopathy and chronic venous insufficiency. It strengthens blood vessel walls and reduces capillary permeability.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
500-1000 mg daily, usually divided into 1-2 doses after meals. Duration of treatment depends on the condition.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required, but caution is advised in patients with severe renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Consider dosage reduction in severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min).
How to Take
To be taken orally, preferably after meals, with water.
Mechanism of Action
Calcium dobesilate acts on the capillary walls, reducing their permeability and improving their resistance. It inhibits certain enzymes involved in inflammation and microcirculatory disturbances, thus protecting endothelial cells and reducing blood viscosity.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical effects usually observed within 1-2 weeks of treatment initiation.
Excretion
Mainly via urine, with some fecal excretion.
Half life
Approximately 5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly but incompletely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma levels are reached within 6 hours.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized. Primarily excreted unchanged.
