Overview of the medicine
Doquin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
250-500 mg once daily, depending on the infection severity.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required unless renal impairment is present.
Renal_impairment
Dose reduction necessary for creatinine clearance < 50 mL/min.
How to Take
Can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Doquin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.

Within 1-2 hours for antibacterial action.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in urine.
Half life
Approximately 6-8 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are achieved within 1-2 hours.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Doquin or other fluoroquinolones
- •History of tendinitis or tendon rupture associated with fluoroquinolone use

Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin.
Theophylline
May increase theophylline levels and lead to toxicity.
Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium
Reduces absorption of Doquin.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered. Maintain adequate hydration.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during pregnancy or lactation due to potential risks to the fetus/infant. Consult a doctor.
