Overview of the medicine
Dormir 5 mg tablet contains Zolpidem tartrate, a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic used for the short-term treatment of insomnia characterized by difficulties with sleep initiation.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 5 mg taken orally once daily immediately before bedtime. Max 10 mg/day. Should not exceed 10 mg/day. Use for short periods, usually 7-10 days.
Elderly

Renal_impairment

How to Take
Take orally immediately before bedtime. Do not take with or immediately after a meal as this may delay onset of action. Swallow whole, do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Zolpidem selectively binds to the omega-1 receptor subtype of the GABA-A receptor complex, enhancing GABAergic inhibition, leading to sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, and anticonvulsant effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Typically within 30 minutes.
Excretion
Metabolites are primarily excreted in urine (about 48-67%) and feces (about 29-39%).
Half life
Approximately 2.5-3 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; peak plasma concentrations reached in 0.5-3 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by cytochrome P450 enzymes, forming inactive metabolites.
