Description
Overview of the medicine
Edisolone 1 mg/mL Suspension is a corticosteroid used to treat various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, allergies, and certain types of cancer. It works by reducing inflammation and suppressing the immune system.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Dosage varies widely based on condition. Typically, 5-60 mg/day initially, tapered as needed. For acute exacerbations, higher doses may be used temporarily.
Elderly
Lower initial doses may be considered due to increased risk of side effects. Careful monitoring is advised.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment is usually required as renal excretion is a minor route for active drug. Monitor for fluid retention.
How to Take
Shake well before use. Administer orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal irritation. Take as directed by your doctor. Do not stop suddenly.
Mechanism of Action
Prednisolone, a synthetic glucocorticoid, binds to cytoplasmic receptors, translocates to the nucleus, and modifies gene expression to exert anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. It inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators and suppresses the function of immune cells.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1-2 hours for anti-inflammatory effects.
Excretion
Excreted mainly in the urine, primarily as inactive metabolites.
Half life
Biological half-life is 18-36 hours, plasma half-life is 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Systemic fungal infections
- •Hypersensitivity to prednisolone or any component of the suspension
- •Live vaccines administration during high-dose corticosteroid therapy
