Take orally, once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It is recommended to take the medicine at the same time each day.

Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium antagonist (calcium ion antagonist or slow channel blocker) that inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into cardiac and vascular smooth muscle. This leads to peripheral arterial vasodilation and reduction in afterload, as well as coronary vasodilation.

• •Hypersensitivity to amlodipine or other dihydropyridine derivatives, or to any of the excipients.
• •Severe hypotension
• •Cardiogenic shock
• •Obstructive outflow tract disease of the left ventricle (e.g., severe aortic stenosis)
• •Hemodynamically unstable heart failure after acute myocardial infarction

Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Overdose may result in excessive peripheral vasodilation with marked hypotension and possibly reflex tachycardia. Symptomatic hypotension may require active cardiovascular support, including elevation of extremities, fluid administration, and vasopressors if appropriate. Calcium gluconate may be beneficial to reverse calcium channel blocking effects.

Pregnancy Category C. Amlodipine should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is not known whether amlodipine is excreted in human milk. Exercise caution when administered to a nursing woman.
