Esozol 20 mg Tablet contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid production. It treats conditions like GERD, ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
GERD: 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Erosive Esophagitis: 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Ulcers: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Initial 40 mg twice daily, adjusted as needed.
Elderly
No dose adjustment generally required, but caution in severely impaired hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment generally required.
How to Take
Take orally, preferably at least one hour before a meal. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew or crush. For patients who cannot swallow, tablets can be dispersed in water.
Mechanism of Action
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that specifically inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (the proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells. This reduces gastric acid secretion.

Mainly excreted in urine (approximately 80%) and feces (approximately 20%) as metabolites.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation.
- Concomitant use with nelfinavir.
Drug Interactions
Diazepam
Decreased metabolism of diazepam.
Warfarin
Increased INR and prothrombin time, monitor carefully.
Nelfinavir
Significant decrease in nelfinavir plasma levels, contraindicated.
Clopidogrel
Reduced antiplatelet effect of clopidogrel, use with caution.
Methotrexate
Increased plasma levels of methotrexate, monitor for toxicity.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Symptoms are generally mild and include confusion, drowsiness, blurred vision, tachycardia, nausea, sweating, flushing, headache, dry mouth, and other gastrointestinal disturbances. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Excreted in breast milk, use with caution during lactation.
