Description
Overview of the medicine
Ethiplex-Z Syrup is a multivitamin and multimineral preparation containing B-complex vitamins and Zinc, primarily used to treat and prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies, promote general health, and support immune function.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 1-2 teaspoonfuls (5-10 mL) daily, or as directed by the physician.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage, or as directed by the physician.
Renal_impairment
Caution advised; consult a physician for dosage adjustment.
How to Take
Oral administration. Can be taken with or without food. For best absorption and to minimize gastrointestinal upset, it is often recommended with food.
Mechanism of Action
Provides essential B-vitamins crucial for cellular metabolism, energy production, nervous system function, and red blood cell formation. Zinc is vital for immune function, wound healing, protein synthesis, and DNA synthesis.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Effects may be noticed within days to weeks of consistent use, as stores are replenished.
Excretion
Water-soluble B-vitamins are primarily excreted unchanged or as metabolites via urine. Zinc is primarily excreted via feces, with some renal excretion.
Half life
Variable for individual components; water-soluble B-vitamins have short half-lives (hours) and are excreted readily. Zinc half-life can be longer, depending on body stores.
Absorption
B-vitamins are mostly absorbed in the small intestine via active transport and diffusion. Zinc absorption varies but occurs mainly in the small intestine.
Metabolism
B-vitamins participate in various metabolic pathways; excess water-soluble vitamins are not stored. Zinc is involved in numerous enzymatic reactions and protein structures.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation
- •Hypervitaminosis (excessive vitamin levels)
- •Severe renal impairment (use with caution)
Drug Interactions
Levodopa
Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) may reduce the effectiveness of levodopa (used in Parkinson's disease).
Diuretics (e.g., Thiazides)
May increase urinary excretion of zinc.
Tetracyclines (e.g., Doxycycline)
Zinc can reduce the absorption of tetracyclines. Separate administration by at least 2-4 hours.
Quinolone antibiotics (e.g., Ciprofloxacin)
Zinc can reduce the absorption of quinolones. Separate administration by at least 2-4 hours.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of acute overdose are rare with water-soluble vitamins but can include gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea). Chronic zinc overdose can lead to copper deficiency and anemia. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and lactation at recommended doses for treating deficiencies, but always consult a physician.
