Description
Overview of the medicine
Eyefen-009 is an ophthalmic solution containing Ketorolac Tromethamine, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), used to relieve pain and inflammation in the eyes.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One drop to the affected eye(s) four times a day. Treatment duration as directed by a physician.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment when administered topically to the eye.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Instill one drop into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s). Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface to prevent contamination.
Mechanism of Action
Ketorolac acts by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis through non-selective inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes. Prostaglandins are mediators of inflammation and pain, so inhibiting their synthesis reduces these symptoms in the eye.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Anti-inflammatory effects can begin within hours, with peak effect in 1-2 days.
Excretion
Excreted mainly through the kidneys.
Half life
Systemic half-life is approximately 5-6 hours, but ophthalmic action is primarily local.
Absorption
Limited systemic absorption following topical ocular administration; primarily acts locally.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac Tromethamine or any component of the formulation.
- •Patients with known hypersensitivity to other NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen) may have cross-sensitivity.
Drug Interactions
Anticoagulants
Theoretically, systemic absorption could increase bleeding risk with oral anticoagulants, but this is highly unlikely with topical ophthalmic use.
Other Ophthalmic Medications
If more than one topical ophthalmic medication is being used, they should be administered at least 5 minutes apart.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Overdose is unlikely with topical ophthalmic administration. If accidental ingestion occurs, seek medical advice. If excessive drops are applied to the eye, flush with lukewarm water.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution is advised when used by breastfeeding mothers as NSAIDs can be excreted in human milk.
