Description
Overview of the medicine
Eytob-03-Eye-Drop contains Tobramycin 0.3%, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, used to treat external bacterial infections of the eye and its adnexa.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 4-6 hours. For severe infections, drops may be instilled more frequently (e.g., every hour) until improvement, then reduce frequency.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required for renal impairment, as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid to create a pouch, and instill drops. Close eye gently. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface.
Mechanism of Action
Tobramycin acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to a faulty protein synthesis and ultimately bacterial cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid, typically within minutes to hours.
Excretion
Mainly renal excretion if systemically absorbed; otherwise, local elimination from ocular surface.
Half life
Not well characterized for topical ophthalmic use due to minimal systemic absorption, but systemic half-life is typically 2-3 hours.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after topical ophthalmic administration. Peak concentrations reached in ocular tissues within minutes.
Metabolism
Not significantly metabolized after topical ophthalmic application; primarily excreted unchanged if systemically absorbed.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Tobramycin or any other aminoglycoside, or to any component of the formulation.
- •Viral or fungal eye infections (as this is an antibacterial)
Drug Interactions
Systemic aminoglycosides
Although systemic absorption is minimal, theoretical risk of increased systemic toxicity if used concurrently with systemic aminoglycosides (e.g., ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity) could be considered.
Other topical ophthalmic medications
If using more than one topical ophthalmic product, administer them at least 5 minutes apart.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C). Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Due to the limited systemic absorption of tobramycin from topical ocular administration, an overdose is unlikely to produce systemic toxicity. In case of local overdose, flush the eye(s) with lukewarm water.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Category B. Use only if clearly needed. Lactation: It is not known whether tobramycin is excreted in human milk after topical ophthalmic administration; use with caution.
