Description
Overview of the medicine
Feva-Rapid Actizorb 500 mg Tablet is a fast-acting formulation of paracetamol, used for the relief of mild to moderate pain and reduction of fever. The 'Actizorb' technology aims for quicker absorption and faster onset of action.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
500 mg to 1000 mg every 4-6 hours as needed. Maximum 4000 mg in 24 hours.
Elderly
Generally same as adults, but caution with hepatic or renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dose interval may need to be extended to 6-8 hours for severe impairment (CrCl < 10 mL/min).
How to Take
Oral administration. Tablets can be taken with or without food. For faster action, it is often recommended to take without food.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol works primarily by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system, which leads to its analgesic and antipyretic effects. It has weak anti-inflammatory properties.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Typically within 15-30 minutes due to Actizorb technology.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine as glucuronide and sulfate conjugates. Less than 5% is excreted unchanged.
Half life
1-4 hours (typically 2-3 hours in adults).
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, especially with Actizorb formulation. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 15-30 minutes.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via glucuronidation and sulfation pathways. A small amount is metabolized by cytochrome P450 to a toxic intermediate (NAPQI), which is detoxified by glutathione.
