Overview of the medicine
Flagas (Simethicone) is an antiflatulent used to relieve painful symptoms of excess gas in the digestive tract, such as bloating, fullness, and flatulence. It works by breaking down gas bubbles, making them easier to pass.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
40-125 mg orally after meals and at bedtime, as needed, up to 500 mg/day. Chewable tablets should be chewed thoroughly.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required. Same as adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment needed as it is not absorbed.
How to Take
Oral. Take after meals and at bedtime. Chewable tablets should be chewed completely before swallowing. Oral drops can be given directly or mixed with water/formula.
Mechanism of Action
Simethicone is an antifoaming agent. It works by changing the surface tension of gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, causing them to coalesce into larger bubbles that are more easily passed or absorbed.
