Description
Overview of the medicine
Flexor 5 mg tablet is a muscle relaxant used to relieve pain, discomfort, and stiffness associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual dose is 5 mg three times a day. Based on individual patient response, the dose may be increased to 10 mg three times a day. Do not exceed a total daily dose of 30 mg.
Elderly
Initiate with 5 mg once a day and gradually titrate upwards. Monitor for sedation and anticholinergic effects.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dose adjustment may be necessary in patients with severe renal impairment due to potential accumulation of metabolites.
How to Take
Flexor tablets can be taken orally, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Flexor works as a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant. It reduces tonic somatic motor activity influencing both alpha and gamma motor systems. It's thought to act primarily at the brain stem level, reducing muscle spasm without interfering with muscle function.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of action typically within 1 hour.
Excretion
Excreted primarily via the kidneys as metabolites.
Half life
Mean plasma half-life is 18 hours (range 8-37 hours).
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma concentrations are reached in about 2 to 8 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by oxidation followed by conjugation.

Drug Interactions
MAOIs
Concomitant use may lead to hyperpyretic crises, severe convulsions, and death.
Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs)
May potentiate the risk of adverse effects due to structural similarity.
CNS Depressants (e.g., alcohol, barbiturates, benzodiazepines)
May enhance the depressant effects on the central nervous system.
Storage
Store at controlled room temperature (20-25°C), away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include drowsiness, hypothermia, tachycardia, and other anticholinergic effects. Management involves symptomatic and supportive treatment. Gastric lavage may be considered if performed early.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have shown no evidence of harm to the fetus, but there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known whether Flexor is excreted in human milk; caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
