Description
Overview of the medicine
Fluxit 5 mg Tablet is an antidepressant belonging to the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) class. It is primarily used to treat major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, and panic disorder by helping to restore the balance of serotonin in the brain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 5 mg once daily, preferably in the morning. May be increased to 10 mg after 1 week. Max dose 20 mg daily.
Elderly
Initial dose 5 mg once daily. Max dose typically 10 mg daily.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment needed for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, with or without food. It can be taken at any time of day, but consistency is recommended. Taking it in the morning may help avoid insomnia.
Mechanism of Action
Fluxit works by selectively inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin by neurons in the central nervous system. This increases the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic cleft, leading to enhanced serotonergic neurotransmission and improvement in mood and anxiety symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical effects may take 2-4 weeks to become apparent.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine (approximately 60%) and feces (approximately 40%) as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 20-30 hours, with an active metabolite having a slightly longer half-life.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, peak plasma concentrations reached within 4-8 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP2D6 and CYP3A4.
