Description
Overview of the medicine
Freemax 100 mg Tablet is a medication used to relieve muscle spasms associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions. It works by acting on the central nervous system to reduce muscle stiffness and pain, improving movement and comfort. It is typically used for short periods (up to 2-3 weeks).
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual adult dose is 100 mg orally once daily. Dosage should be individualized to achieve optimal relief with minimal side effects.
Elderly
Use with caution. A lower initial dose (e.g., 50 mg) may be considered, and dosage should be titrated slowly.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dosage adjustments may be necessary based on severity of impairment and patient response.
How to Take
Take Freemax 100 mg Tablet orally with or without food, as directed by your physician. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet if it is an extended-release formulation.
Mechanism of Action
Cyclobenzaprine acts centrally as a skeletal muscle relaxant. It reduces tonic somatic motor activity influencing both alpha and gamma motor neurons, primarily at the brain stem level and by influencing the descending noradrenergic system.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1 hour.
Excretion
Excreted primarily through the kidneys as metabolites, with some fecal excretion.
Half life
Approximately 18 hours (range 8-37 hours).
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, approximately 75% bioavailable.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by N-demethylation, followed by conjugation with glucuronic acid. CYP3A4, CYP1A2, and CYP2D6 are involved.
