Description
Overview of the medicine
Fungicort-1-01-cream is a combination medicine containing an antifungal (Clotrimazole) and a corticosteroid (Betamethasone Dipropionate). It is used to treat various fungal skin infections that are also accompanied by inflammation, redness, and itching.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area twice daily (morning and evening) for up to 2 weeks, or as directed by a physician. Treatment duration should not exceed 4 weeks.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is required for elderly patients. Use with caution for prolonged periods or on large areas.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For external use only. Wash and dry the affected area thoroughly before application. Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected skin area and gently rub it in. Wash hands immediately after application. Do not cover the treated area with occlusive dressings unless advised by a doctor.
Mechanism of Action
Clotrimazole works by inhibiting the biosynthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, leading to increased permeability and eventual cell death. Betamethasone Dipropionate is a potent corticosteroid that provides anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions, reducing swelling, redness, and itching.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Symptomatic relief of itching and inflammation may begin within a few days of starting treatment.
Excretion
Systemically absorbed Betamethasone is excreted primarily by the kidneys. Clotrimazole is minimally absorbed, so systemic excretion is not significant.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical application due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Clotrimazole has minimal systemic absorption when applied topically. Betamethasone Dipropionate absorption through the skin is generally low but can increase with prolonged use, application to large surface areas, or occlusive dressings.
Metabolism
Minimal localized metabolism in the skin for both active ingredients. Systemically absorbed Betamethasone is metabolized primarily in the liver.

Drug Interactions
Other topical antifungals

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Excessive or prolonged use of Fungicort-1-01-cream may lead to local side effects such as skin atrophy, striae, or rarely, systemic corticosteroid effects (e.g., Cushing's syndrome, adrenal suppression). In case of accidental ingestion, seek immediate medical attention. Management is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use with caution during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Avoid prolonged use or application to large body areas. Consult your doctor. It is unknown if topical Clotrimazole and Betamethasone are excreted in breast milk; use with caution in nursing mothers.
