How to Take
For external use only. Clean the affected area thoroughly before applying a thin layer of ointment. Wash hands before and after application.
Mechanism of Action
Fusidic acid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by interfering with the translocation of elongation factor G (EF-G) from the ribosome, preventing bacterial growth and replication.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within hours to days of application.
Excretion
Mainly through bile and feces if systemically absorbed.
Half life
Not applicable for topical use due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption through intact skin. Absorption may increase if applied to damaged skin.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic if significant systemic absorption occurs (rare with topical use).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fusidic acid or any other components of the ointment.

Drug Interactions
Systemic antibiotics
Minimal systemic absorption, so drug interactions are unlikely with topical application.
Storage
Store below 25-30°C. Do not freeze. Keep out of direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Topical overdose is unlikely to cause systemic effects due to minimal absorption. Excessive application may lead to increased local irritation.
