Description
Overview of the medicine
Hexinor 2 mg Tablet contains Trihexyphenidyl Hydrochloride, an anticholinergic medication used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease and drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For Parkinsonism, initially 1 mg daily, increased by 2 mg every 3 to 5 days until optimal response. Maintenance dose: 6-10 mg daily in 3-4 divided doses, up to 15 mg/day. For drug-induced extrapyramidal disorders, 5-15 mg daily in divided doses.
Elderly
Start with a lower dose (e.g., 0.5 mg daily) and titrate carefully due to increased susceptibility to side effects.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose reduction may be necessary. Specific guidelines often not well-defined, monitor for side effects.
How to Take
Take with or after meals to minimize gastrointestinal irritation. The total daily dose should be divided into 3 or 4 doses.
Mechanism of Action
Trihexyphenidyl acts by blocking central cholinergic receptors, thereby reducing the excessive cholinergic activity that contributes to symptoms like tremor and rigidity in Parkinson's disease and drug-induced extrapyramidal disorders.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of action typically within 1 hour.
Excretion
Excreted primarily in the urine as metabolites and unchanged drug.
Half life
Half-life is approximately 6-10 hours.

Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
Metabolism
Metabolized in the liver.
