Description
Overview of the medicine
Hipomax 1 gm Tablet is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and intra-abdominal infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1 gm once daily or 500 mg twice daily, depending on infection severity and physician's discretion. Duration typically 7-14 days.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment needed unless severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function.
Renal_impairment

How to Take
Take the tablet orally with a glass of water, with or without food. Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel better.
Mechanism of Action
Hipomax acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located in the bacterial cell wall, which prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan units, leading to cell wall disruption and bacterial death.

Excretion
Mainly via kidneys (glomerular filtration and tubular secretion) and bile.
Half life
Approximately 6-9 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, achieving peak plasma concentrations within 2-3 hours.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized; primarily excreted unchanged.
