Description
Overview of the medicine
Hylo-Gel is a sterile, preservative-free ophthalmic solution containing sodium hyaluronate, used to alleviate severe and persistent dry eye symptoms. It provides intensive and long-lasting lubrication for the ocular surface.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill one drop into the conjunctival sac 3-5 times daily, or as required based on the severity of symptoms. Can be used more frequently if needed.
Elderly
Same as adults.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed as systemic absorption is minimal.
Hepatic_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
Apply directly into the conjunctival sac of each affected eye. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and squeeze the bottle gently. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface to prevent contamination.
Mechanism of Action
Sodium hyaluronate is a natural polysaccharide that forms a stable, long-lasting, viscoelastic film on the ocular surface, improving lubrication and hydration to relieve dry eye symptoms and protect the cornea.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Immediate upon application.
Excretion
Primarily eliminated locally or via lacrimal drainage; negligible systemic excretion.
Half life
Not applicable for topical ocular use as systemic absorption is negligible.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after ocular administration due to high molecular weight and topical application.
Metabolism
Not significantly metabolized systemically. Locally broken down by hyaluronidases.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to sodium hyaluronate or any other component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Other ophthalmic medications
Allow at least 30 minutes between applications of Hylo-Gel and any other eye drops or ointments. Hylo-Gel should always be applied last.
Storage
Store below 25°C (77°F). Do not freeze. Keep away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose is highly unlikely with topical ocular administration. If excessive amounts are accidentally used, flush eyes with water. No specific antidote is required.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Due to minimal systemic absorption, Hylo-Gel is generally considered safe during pregnancy and lactation. However, consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
