Description
Overview of the medicine
Hypnofast 75 mg Tablet contains Pregabalin, which is used to treat neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and as an adjunctive therapy for partial onset seizures in adults. It is also used to manage generalized anxiety disorder.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typical starting dose is 75 mg twice daily (150 mg/day). May be increased to 150 mg twice daily (300 mg/day) within one week. Maximum dose is 300 mg twice daily (600 mg/day) depending on response and tolerability.
Elderly
Lower starting doses and cautious titration may be necessary due to potential for decreased renal function. Renal function should be assessed.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment required based on creatinine clearance. For patients with CrCl 30-60 mL/min, 75 mg/day in 2-3 divided doses. For CrCl 15-30 mL/min, 25-50 mg/day in 1-2 divided doses. For CrCl <15 mL/min, 25 mg once daily or 25 mg every other day.
How to Take
Hypnofast tablets should be taken orally, with or without food. It can be taken at any time of the day. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew, or break it.
Mechanism of Action
Pregabalin binds with high affinity to the alpha2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. This binding reduces the release of several excitatory neurotransmitters, thereby producing its analgesic, anxiolytic, and anticonvulsant effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1 hour for some effects; full therapeutic effect may take several days to weeks.
Excretion
Excreted primarily unchanged in the urine (approximately 98% of the dose).
Half life
Approximately 6.3 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed following oral administration; peak plasma concentrations reached within 1.5 hours. Oral bioavailability is >90% and is independent of dose.
Metabolism
Negligible metabolism in humans; <0.1% of the dose is excreted as metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Pregabalin or any component of the formulation.
- Severe allergic reactions to similar medications.
Drug Interactions
Thiazolidinediones (e.g., Pioglitazone, Rosiglitazone)
May increase the risk of weight gain and peripheral edema when co-administered with Pregabalin.
CNS Depressants (e.g., Alcohol, Benzodiazepines, Opioids)
Concurrent use may enhance CNS depressant effects, including sedation and respiratory depression.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include somnolence, confusion, agitation, and restlessness. Management is primarily supportive; hemodialysis may be considered in severe cases as Pregabalin is dialyzable.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Pregabalin is excreted into breast milk; breastfeeding is not recommended unless the benefits clearly outweigh the risks to the infant.

Clinical Trials
Pregabalin has undergone extensive clinical trials demonstrating its efficacy and safety for various indications, including neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and generalized anxiety disorder.
Lab Monitoring
- Renal function (creatinine clearance) should be monitored regularly, especially in elderly patients or those with pre-existing renal impairment.
Doctor Notes
- Initiate therapy with low doses and titrate gradually to effect to minimize CNS side effects.
- Monitor patients for signs of suicidal ideation and unusual behavioral changes, especially during initial therapy or dose changes.
- Assess renal function before initiating treatment and periodically thereafter, adjusting dose as needed.
Patient Guidelines
- Do not stop taking Hypnofast suddenly, as it may cause withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, nausea, anxiety, or sweating. Consult your doctor for gradual dose reduction.
- Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can increase side effects like dizziness and somnolence.
- Report any mood changes, unusual thoughts, or signs of depression to your doctor immediately.
Missed Dose Advice
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Driving Precautions
Hypnofast may cause dizziness, somnolence, and blurred vision. Patients should be advised not to drive, operate complex machinery, or engage in other potentially dangerous activities until they are reasonably certain that Pregabalin does not adversely affect their ability to perform such activities.
Lifestyle Advice
- Avoid activities requiring mental alertness, such as driving or operating machinery, until you know how this medicine affects you.
- Monitor your weight, as weight gain is a common side effect, and consult your doctor for management strategies.
