Description
Overview of the medicine
Ibruxen 140 mg Capsule is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the relief of mild to moderate pain, inflammation, and fever.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1-2 capsules (140-280 mg) every 6-8 hours as needed, not exceeding 840 mg (6 capsules) in 24 hours.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required. Monitor renal and hepatic function regularly.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment is necessary. Start with lower doses and monitor renal function closely. Avoid in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the capsule whole with water; do not crush, chew, or open.
Mechanism of Action
Ibruxen exerts its therapeutic effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Analgesic effect typically begins within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in the urine as metabolites and conjugates, with a small amount excreted unchanged.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 1-2 hours after oral administration.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via oxidation and glucuronidation.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Ibuprofen or other NSAIDs, or to any component of the formulation.
- Active or history of recurrent peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding.
- Severe heart failure, renal failure, or hepatic failure.
- Third trimester of pregnancy.
Drug Interactions
Corticosteroids
Increased risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding.
Lithium and Methotrexate
May increase plasma concentrations and toxicity of these drugs.
Diuretics and ACE inhibitors
May reduce the antihypertensive effect and increase the risk of renal impairment.
Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
Increased risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, lethargy, drowsiness, headache, tinnitus, and nystagmus. Severe overdose can lead to acute renal failure, hepatic damage, hypotension, respiratory depression, and coma. Management involves symptomatic and supportive treatment, including gastric lavage or activated charcoal if recent ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Avoid in the third trimester of pregnancy due to potential fetal harm and prolonged labor. Use with caution in the first and second trimesters only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk. Limited data on excretion into breast milk; use with caution during lactation and monitor the infant for adverse effects.
