Description
Overview of the medicine
Inflect 500 mg Tablet is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
500 mg once daily for 7-14 days, depending on the infection. For severe infections, 500 mg twice daily may be prescribed.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment typically required unless severe renal impairment is present.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with creatinine clearance < 50 mL/min. For CrCl 20-49 mL/min, 250 mg every 24 hours; for CrCl < 20 mL/min, 250 mg every 48 hours.
How to Take
Take orally with a glass of water, with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Maintain adequate hydration.
Mechanism of Action
Inflect inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to the inhibition of bacterial cell growth and death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Varies by infection type, generally within hours for antibacterial effect.
Excretion
Mainly excreted unchanged in the urine via glomerular filtration and tubular secretion.
Half life
Approximately 6-8 hours, allowing for once or twice daily dosing.
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized in the liver; primarily excreted unchanged.

Increased risk of tendon rupture when co-administered with fluoroquinolones.
Antacids (containing magnesium/aluminum), sucralfate, iron supplements, multivitamins (containing zinc)
