Ipadox 100 mg capsule contains Doxycycline, a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typical dose: 100 mg twice daily on the first day, followed by 100 mg once daily. For severe infections, 100 mg twice daily.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required, but monitor for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed, as renal excretion is minimal.
How to Take
Take orally with a full glass of water, preferably with food or milk to reduce gastric irritation. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking the medicine.
Mechanism of Action
Doxycycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing the attachment of aminoacyl tRNA to the acceptor site on the mRNA-ribosome complex. This action is primarily bacteriostatic.

Onset
Within 1-2 hours of administration, peak plasma levels reached in 2-3 hours.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in urine and feces via bile.
Half life
16-22 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed after oral administration; bioavailability is nearly complete.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized; hepatic metabolism plays a small role.
Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May enhance anticoagulant effects; monitor INR.
Penicillins

Antacids, Iron, Calcium, Magnesium supplements
Can decrease doxycycline absorption; administer 2-3 hours apart.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Treatment is primarily symptomatic and supportive; gastric lavage may be considered soon after ingestion. Hemodialysis is not effective.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category D. May cause permanent tooth discoloration and inhibit bone development in the fetus/child. Not recommended during pregnancy. Doxycycline is excreted in breast milk; avoid use during lactation or monitor infant for side effects.
