Description
Overview of the medicine
Isoben-25-01 Lotion is a topical antifungal medication used to treat various fungal infections of the skin.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply thinly to the affected skin areas once daily. The duration of treatment depends on the extent and location of the infection, usually 2 to 4 weeks.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is required for elderly patients. Use as per adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area before applying a thin layer of lotion. Rub gently until it disappears. Wash hands after application.
Mechanism of Action
Isoconazole nitrate inhibits the biosynthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of the fungal cell membrane, leading to increased cell membrane permeability and eventual lysis of the fungal cell.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Symptomatic relief usually begins within a few days of treatment. Complete mycological cure may take longer, depending on the severity and type of infection.
Excretion
Excreted primarily via feces and, to a lesser extent, in urine after hepatic metabolism.
Half life
Systemic half-life is not clinically relevant for topical administration due to minimal absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption occurs following topical application to intact or damaged skin. Less than 1% of the applied dose reaches systemic circulation.
Metabolism
Any absorbed portion is metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to isoconazole nitrate or any other imidazole derivative.
- Hypersensitivity to any excipients in the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Systemic drugs
Due to minimal systemic absorption, clinically significant drug interactions are unlikely with topical isoconazole nitrate.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose with topical application is highly unlikely due to minimal systemic absorption. In case of accidental ingestion, supportive and symptomatic treatment should be given.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy and lactation should only be considered if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or infant. Consult a doctor before use.
