Description
Overview of the medicine
Itchin-DS 4 Eye Drop contains Olopatadine, an ophthalmic antihistamine and mast cell stabilizer, used to relieve ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, approximately 6 to 8 hours apart.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is typically required.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is typically required.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and instill one drop into the conjunctival sac. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface to prevent contamination.
Mechanism of Action
Olopatadine acts as a selective H1-receptor antagonist and mast cell stabilizer. It inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells and antagonizes H1 receptors on conjunctival epithelial cells, thereby preventing and relieving ocular allergic symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within minutes of instillation.
Excretion
Mainly via renal excretion, with approximately 60-70% excreted unchanged in urine.
Half life
Approximately 3 hours systemically, though local effects can last longer.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after ocular administration. Peak plasma concentrations are typically reached within 2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to two minor metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to olopatadine hydrochloride or any component of the formulation
Drug Interactions
None clinically significant for ophthalmic use
Due to minimal systemic absorption, systemic drug interactions are unlikely with ophthalmic olopatadine.
Storage
Store at room temperature (15-30°C). Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Accidental ingestion of a bottle's contents is unlikely to cause serious problems. Symptoms of oral overdose may include drowsiness. Management is supportive and symptomatic.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefits justify the potential risks to the fetus. Exercise caution when administered to a nursing woman as it is unknown if olopatadine is excreted in human milk.
