Description
Overview of the medicine
ItchSol 1-3 Cream is a topical medication containing hydrocortisone, a corticosteroid, and pramoxine hydrochloride, a local anesthetic. It is used to relieve itching, inflammation, and discomfort associated with various skin conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer to the affected area 2 to 4 times daily, or as directed by a physician. Rub in gently.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage, but caution should be exercised regarding prolonged use on fragile skin.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required for topical application.
How to Take
For external use only. Cleanse the affected area before application. Apply a thin film of cream to the affected skin and gently rub in. Wash hands thoroughly after application unless hands are the treated area.
Mechanism of Action
Hydrocortisone acts as a corticosteroid, suppressing the inflammatory response by inhibiting the release of mediators involved in inflammation. Pramoxine hydrochloride is a topical anesthetic that works by blocking nerve signals in the skin, providing temporary relief from pain and itching.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Pramoxine: Rapid (within 3-5 minutes). Hydrocortisone: Effects may be noticeable within hours, full effect within days.
Excretion
Mainly through the kidneys, if significant systemic absorption occurs.
Half life
Not typically reported for topical application due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption through intact skin. Absorption may increase with inflammation, skin breakdown, or occlusive dressings.
Metabolism
Hydrocortisone: Primarily in the liver. Pramoxine: Primarily in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to hydrocortisone, pramoxine, or any component of the cream
- Infections (bacterial, fungal, viral) of the skin without concomitant anti-infective treatment
- Tuberculosis of the skin, acne vulgaris, rosacea, perioral dermatitis
Drug Interactions
None
Significant systemic drug interactions are unlikely with proper topical use due to minimal absorption.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose through topical application is unlikely to cause acute problems. However, prolonged or excessive use of large amounts may lead to systemic effects of corticosteroids (e.g., Cushing's syndrome, adrenal suppression) or local anesthetic toxicity (e.g., CNS excitation, cardiovascular effects), especially in children or if applied to broken skin.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy and lactation should be done with caution and only if clearly needed, under the guidance of a physician. Avoid large areas, prolonged use, or application to the breast area during lactation.
