K-Nor 200 mg/5 mL Suspension is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For specific adult indications requiring suspension, consult physician. Typical adult dose for tablets is 500 mg once daily for 3 days or 500 mg on day 1 followed by 250 mg for 4 days.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required, but monitor for side effects.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Shake well before use. Administer orally once daily, with or without food. Use an accurate measuring device (e.g., oral syringe or measuring spoon provided).
Mechanism of Action
Azithromycin works by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. This bacteriostatic action prevents bacterial growth and replication.

Side Effects
Contraindications

- •History of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with prior azithromycin use
Drug Interactions
Antacids
Concurrent use may decrease peak serum concentrations of azithromycin. Administer azithromycin at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacids.
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect may occur. Monitor INR closely.
Nelfinavir
Increased azithromycin concentrations. No dose adjustment needed but monitor for side effects.
Storage
Store dry powder below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Store reconstituted suspension below 30°C, do not refrigerate.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and reversible hearing loss. Gastric lavage and general supportive measures are indicated.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use only if clearly needed. Azithromycin is excreted in breast milk; caution advised during lactation.
