Overview of the medicine
Ketocure contains Ketoconazole, an antifungal agent used to treat various fungal skin infections such as tinea infections, candidiasis, pityriasis versicolor, and seborrheic dermatitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For cream: Apply to affected areas once daily for 2-4 weeks. For shampoo: Apply to wet scalp/affected areas, lather, leave for 3-5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Use twice weekly for 2-4 weeks for seborrheic dermatitis, then once weekly as maintenance if needed.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required for topical use.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required for topical use.
How to Take
For topical use only. Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected skin and surrounding areas. For shampoo, apply to wet hair/affected areas, gently massage, leave for 3-5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Ensure to wash hands before and after application.
Mechanism of Action
Ketoconazole inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes, leading to increased membrane permeability and leakage of cellular contents, ultimately causing fungal cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical improvement usually seen within 2-4 weeks for most skin infections. For seborrheic dermatitis, improvement may be observed earlier.
Excretion
Not significant systemically after topical use.
Half life
Not well characterized for topical use due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after topical application on intact skin.
Metabolism
Not significant systemically after topical use.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or any component of the formulation.
- Oral ketoconazole is contraindicated in patients with acute or chronic liver disease.

No specific drug interactions are commonly reported for topical ketoconazole. However, caution is advised if applied concurrently with other topical products.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Overdose with topical application is unlikely. Accidental ingestion of topical formulation may cause gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain); seek medical advice if large quantities are ingested.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if clearly needed after consulting a doctor. Minimal absorption with topical use, but caution is advised. Consult your doctor if breastfeeding, as it is unknown whether ketoconazole is excreted in breast milk after topical application.
