Overview of the medicine
Ketotifen Fumarate Ophthalmic Solution is an antihistamine eye drop used for the temporary prevention and relief of ocular itching due to allergic conjunctivitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily (every 8 to 12 hours).
Elderly
Same as adults.
Renal_impairment
No adjustment needed for topical ocular use.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid, and instill one drop into the conjunctival sac. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to the eye or any other surface.
Mechanism of Action
Ketotifen is a relatively selective, non-competitive H1-receptor antagonist and mast cell stabilizer. It inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators such as histamine from mast cells, thereby reducing allergic reactions.
