Description
Overview of the medicine
Kinate 100 mg is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure. It helps to relax blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 40 mg once daily, adjusted to 80-160 mg once daily based on response. Max 320 mg/day.
Elderly
No initial dose adjustment required, but monitor carefully.
Renal_impairment
No initial dose adjustment for mild to moderate impairment. Not recommended for severe impairment.
How to Take
Take orally once daily with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water, do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Kinate selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, inhibiting the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. This leads to vasodilation, reduced blood pressure, and decreased cardiac workload.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Antihypertensive effect within 2 hours.
Excretion
Mainly excreted unchanged in feces (80%) and urine (20%).
Half life
Approximately 6-9 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, bioavailability around 25-30%.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized by the liver, primarily to an inactive metabolite.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Kinate or any component
- Pregnancy (second and third trimesters)
- Concomitant use with aliskiren in diabetic patients
Drug Interactions
NSAIDs
May reduce antihypertensive effect and increase risk of renal impairment.
Lithium
Increased serum lithium concentrations and toxicity.
Potassium-sparing diuretics
Increased risk of hyperkalemia.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms include hypotension and tachycardia; bradycardia may occur. Treatment is supportive, including IV fluids and vasopressors if severe hypotension occurs. Hemodialysis is not effective.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Category D in pregnancy (second and third trimesters). Not recommended during breastfeeding due to potential risk to infant.
