Overview of the medicine
Cloxacillin is a penicillin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It is effective against penicillinase-producing staphylococci.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
500 mg every 6 hours, usually for 7-14 days depending on infection severity. To be taken on an empty stomach.
Elderly
Same as adults, but dose adjustment may be needed in severe renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dose reduction may be necessary for severe renal dysfunction (e.g., CrCl <10 mL/min).
How to Take
Take on an empty stomach (at least 30 minutes before food or 2 hours after food) with a glass of water to ensure maximal absorption.
Mechanism of Action
Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death.

Rapid, typically within 30-60 minutes for antimicrobial effect.
