Description
Overview of the medicine
Ktex 5 mg tablet contains Ketoxifene, a potent non-sedating antihistamine used for symptomatic relief of allergic conditions such as seasonal allergic rhinitis, perennial allergic rhinitis, and chronic idiopathic urticaria. It effectively reduces symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and skin rashes.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg once daily. Max 10 mg/day if severe symptoms.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment usually required, but use with caution.
Renal_impairment
For CrCl <30 mL/min, 5 mg every other day.
How to Take
Oral, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Ketoxifene is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It competitively inhibits the binding of histamine to H1 receptors, thereby preventing the actions of histamine on various tissues, leading to relief from allergic symptoms. It also has mast cell stabilizing properties.

Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Antacids
May reduce absorption of Ketoxifene.
Erythromycin, Ketoconazole
May increase plasma levels of Ketoxifene.
CNS Depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives)
May enhance the sedative effects (although minimal for Ketoxifene).
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms include drowsiness, tachycardia, and headache. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage and activated charcoal if recent ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as Ketoxifene is excreted in breast milk. Consult a doctor.
