Description
Overview of the medicine
KX-100 100 mg Tablet is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for pain relief and reducing inflammation. It helps in managing various painful conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and dysmenorrhea.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
100 mg once or twice daily, or as directed by physician. Max 200 mg/day.
Elderly
Lower initial doses may be required, careful monitoring for adverse effects is advised. Consult physician.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution in mild to moderate impairment. Not recommended in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, chew, or break it.
Mechanism of Action
It works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, primarily COX-2, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins, mediators of inflammation, pain, and fever.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in urine as metabolites, a small amount in feces.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, peak plasma levels reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to NSAIDs or any component of KX-100
- Active peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- Third trimester of pregnancy
- Severe uncontrolled heart failure
- Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery peri-operative pain
Drug Interactions
Lithium
Increased plasma lithium levels, leading to toxicity.
Methotrexate
Increased plasma methotrexate levels, leading to toxicity.
SSRIs and SNRIs
Increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Diuretics (e.g., Furosemide)
Reduced natriuretic effect and potential for renal toxicity.
Warfarin and other anticoagulants
Increased risk of bleeding.
ACE Inhibitors and Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARBs)
Reduced antihypertensive effect and increased risk of renal impairment.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, drowsiness, lethargy, tinnitus, and headache. In severe cases, gastrointestinal bleeding, acute renal failure, coma, and convulsions may occur. Management is primarily supportive; gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered if recent ingestion. Monitor vital signs and renal function.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Avoid in the third trimester of pregnancy due to the risk of premature closure of the fetal ductus arteriosus and potential renal dysfunction in the fetus. Use with caution during the first and second trimesters and during lactation; only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus/infant. Consult a doctor.
