Description
Overview of the medicine
L-con-03 Eye Drop is a combination ophthalmic solution used to relieve redness, itching, and irritation of the eyes caused by minor eye irritations, allergies, or common cold. It contains a decongestant, an antihistamine, and a preservative.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) up to four times daily.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage. Use with caution due to potential systemic effects in sensitive individuals.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required for topical ophthalmic use.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid to create a pouch, instill drops, then close eye gently. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface. Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting.
Mechanism of Action
Naphazoline HCl is a sympathomimetic amine that acts as a vasoconstrictor, reducing ocular redness. Pheniramine Maleate is an antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors, reducing allergic symptoms like itching and watery eyes. Benzalkonium Chloride acts as an antimicrobial preservative.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 5-10 minutes for decongestant effect.
Excretion
Mainly via urine if systemically absorbed.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical ophthalmic use; systemic half-life of naphazoline is short.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption through the conjunctiva; local action is primary.
Metabolism
Primarily local, any absorbed portion metabolized in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation
- Narrow-angle glaucoma
- Use in children under 6 years of age
Drug Interactions
Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs)
May enhance the vasoconstrictive effects of naphazoline.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
May potentiate the systemic effects of naphazoline, leading to hypertensive crisis.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C). Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any remaining solution 28 days after opening.
Overdose
Overdose from topical ophthalmic application is rare but systemic absorption can lead to CNS depression, hypotension, bradycardia, or coma, especially in children. Treatment is supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy and lactation only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. Consult a doctor.
