Description
Overview of the medicine
Lacrigel-1 Eye Drop is a sterile ophthalmic preparation containing Carbomer 980, used to relieve symptoms of dry eyes, irritation, and discomfort by providing lubrication and moisturizing the ocular surface.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) 3-4 times daily or as needed for relief. If symptoms persist, consult a physician.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is necessary for elderly patients; follow adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment, as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket, instill 1 drop, and then gently close your eye. Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface.
Mechanism of Action
Carbomer 980 is a high molecular weight polyacrylic acid that forms a viscoelastic, transparent, and lubricating film on the ocular surface. It increases the tear film stability and prolongs the tear film break-up time, thus alleviating symptoms of dry eye.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Immediate upon application.
Excretion
Drains with tears and is not significantly absorbed into systemic circulation.
Half life
Local action, no systemic half-life due to minimal absorption.
Absorption
Minimal to negligible systemic absorption after topical ocular administration.
Metabolism
Not significantly metabolized systemically.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Carbomer 980 or any other component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Other Ophthalmic Preparations
If you are using other eye drops, wait at least 5-10 minutes between applications to prevent wash-out of the gel. Apply Lacrigel-1 last.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose is highly unlikely with topical ophthalmic administration. If excessive amount is applied, rinse the eye with water.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe during pregnancy and lactation due to minimal systemic absorption. However, consult your doctor before use.
