Description
Overview of the medicine
Lansopril is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat conditions involving excess stomach acid, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typical dose is 15 mg or 30 mg once daily, usually before breakfast. Duration varies by condition (e.g., GERD 4-8 weeks, Ulcers 2-4 weeks).
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required, but monitor for adverse effects, especially in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for renal impairment. Caution with severe hepatic impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, usually once daily before a meal. Do not chew or crush the capsule; swallow whole.
Mechanism of Action
Lansopril irreversibly binds to and inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase pump (proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells, thereby suppressing gastric acid secretion.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Acid secretion inhibition begins within 1-2 hours, full effect within a few days.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in the feces (approximately two-thirds) and urine (approximately one-third) as metabolites.
Half life
Plasma elimination half-life is 1.5-2 hours, but its acid-suppressing effect is much longer.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, bioavailability is approximately 80-90%.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by the cytochrome P450 enzyme system, primarily CYP2C19 and CYP3A4.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to lansopril or any component of the formulation.
- •Concomitant use with rilpivirine-containing products.

Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
