Description
Overview of the medicine
Laxur-Plus 40 mg Tablet is a combination laxative used for the short-term treatment of occasional constipation. It works by increasing intestinal motility and softening stool, facilitating easier bowel movements.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One 40 mg tablet orally, once daily at bedtime, or as directed by a physician. Do not exceed recommended dosage.
Elderly
Start with the lowest effective dose; dosage adjustments may be required due to age-related changes in renal or hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose adjustment may be necessary depending on the severity of impairment and specific active ingredients.
How to Take
Take orally with a full glass of water, preferably at bedtime for a morning bowel movement. Do not chew or crush the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Laxur-Plus typically contains a stimulant laxative component that directly stimulates nerve endings in the colon, increasing peristalsis, and possibly an osmotic component that draws water into the intestine, softening stool volume and facilitating easier passage.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Oral: 6-12 hours for stimulant effect; 1-3 days for stool softening effect.
Excretion
Excreted via urine and feces; unabsorbed portions are eliminated in feces.
Half life
Dependent on active components; generally short for stimulant laxatives (e.g., 6-10 hours), potentially longer for other components.
Absorption
Varies by specific active ingredients; some components may have minimal systemic absorption, while others are absorbed and metabolized in the liver.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic metabolism for absorbed components, some may undergo enterohepatic recirculation.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
- •Acute abdominal pain, appendicitis, or undiagnosed abdominal pain.
- •Intestinal obstruction, ileus, or acute inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g., Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis).
- •Severe dehydration.
Drug Interactions
Diuretics
May increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance (especially hypokalemia).
Antacids/Milk
Should not be taken within 1 hour if the stimulant component is enteric-coated, as it may dissolve the coating prematurely, leading to gastric irritation.
Corticosteroids
May increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include severe abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and significant fluid and electrolyte imbalances (e.g., hypokalemia). Treatment involves symptomatic and supportive measures, including fluid and electrolyte replacement.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use with caution during pregnancy and lactation. Consult a doctor before use. Generally considered safe for short-term use, but prolonged use should be avoided.
