Overview of the medicine
Levostar (Levocetirizine) is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg once daily, preferably in the evening.
Elderly
Dosage adjustment may be necessary in elderly patients with impaired renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment required based on creatinine clearance (e.g., 5 mg every 2-3 days for moderate impairment).
How to Take
Taken orally with or without food. Can be taken in the evening to minimize daytime drowsiness.
Mechanism of Action
Levocetirizine selectively antagonizes peripheral H1-receptors, thereby preventing the effects of histamine such as itching, sneezing, and watery eyes.

Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Ritonavir
May increase plasma levels of levocetirizine.
CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives)
May increase CNS depression.

Overdose
Symptoms may include drowsiness in adults and agitation/restlessness in children. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered.
