Description
Overview of the medicine
Losucon-M 2 mg Tablet is a corticosteroid used to treat a wide range of inflammatory and allergic conditions. It works by decreasing the body's immune response to various diseases to reduce symptoms like swelling, pain, and itching.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Dosage is highly individualized based on the condition being treated and patient response. Typically, for acute conditions, 2-10 mg daily, followed by gradual tapering. For chronic conditions, lower maintenance doses may be used.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, but use with caution due to potential for increased side effects (e.g., osteoporosis, diabetes).
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment is usually required for renal impairment, but caution is advised in severe cases.
How to Take
Take the tablet orally, with or without food. It is generally recommended to take with food to minimize gastric irritation. Do not crush or chew the tablet unless instructed by a physician.
Mechanism of Action
Mometasone Furoate works by binding to glucocorticoid receptors in the cytoplasm, forming a steroid-receptor complex that translocates into the nucleus. This complex modulates gene expression, leading to the synthesis of anti-inflammatory proteins and inhibition of pro-inflammatory mediators (e.g., prostaglandins, leukotrienes, cytokines).
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of action can vary from hours to days, depending on the condition being treated and the specific formulation.
Excretion
Excreted as metabolites primarily in the feces and, to a lesser extent, in the urine.
Half life
The elimination half-life is approximately 5-7 hours, but its biological effects can persist longer due to receptor binding.
Absorption
Mometasone Furoate is generally well absorbed orally. Systemic bioavailability of oral mometasone is relatively low due to extensive first-pass metabolism.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via CYP3A4 enzymes.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Systemic fungal infections
- •Hypersensitivity to Mometasone Furoate or any component of the formulation
- •Live vaccines should not be given during high-dose corticosteroid therapy
Drug Interactions
Antidiabetic agents
Corticosteroids can increase blood glucose levels, requiring adjustment of antidiabetic medication dosage.
Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
Corticosteroids may alter the effects of anticoagulants; close monitoring of INR is recommended.
Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
Concurrent use may increase the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration.
CYP3A4 Inhibitors (e.g., Ketoconazole, Ritonavir)
Can increase systemic exposure to Mometasone, potentially leading to increased side effects.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Acute overdose is unlikely to cause severe effects. Chronic overdose can lead to signs and symptoms of hypercorticism (Cushing's syndrome), including adrenal suppression. Management involves gradual tapering of the corticosteroid and symptomatic treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Mometasone is excreted in breast milk; caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother.
