Description
Overview of the medicine
Lumiface-0005-Cream is a topical corticosteroid cream containing Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% w/w. It is used to reduce inflammation and itching associated with various skin conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin film to the affected skin areas once or twice daily, as directed by the physician. Do not use for more than 4 weeks without medical review.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage. Use with caution due to potential for thinner skin and increased systemic absorption.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required for topical application, as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected area and rub in gently. Wash hands before and after application. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes.
Mechanism of Action
Fluticasone Propionate is a synthetic trifluorinated corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. It acts by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, thereby controlling the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Relief from symptoms can be observed within a few days of consistent application.
Excretion
Excreted primarily in feces, with a minor portion excreted in urine.
Half life
Systemic half-life is approximately 1-2 hours for absorbed drug, but local effects persist longer.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption through intact skin. Absorption increases with occlusion, skin integrity compromise, or application to large surface areas.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via CYP3A4 pathway.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fluticasone propionate or any component of the cream.
- Rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis.
- Pruritus without inflammation.
- Primary cutaneous viral infections (e.g., herpes simplex, varicella).
- Primary cutaneous fungal or bacterial infections.
- Diaper rash.
Drug Interactions
CYP3A4 inhibitors
Although systemic absorption is minimal, potent CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir, ketoconazole) may increase systemic exposure, particularly with prolonged use or application to large areas.
Corticosteroid-containing products
Concurrent use of other corticosteroid-containing products may increase systemic absorption and risk of side effects.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Acute overdose is unlikely due to minimal systemic absorption. Chronic overdose or misuse may lead to hypercortisolism (Cushing's syndrome) and adrenal suppression. Symptomatic and supportive treatment is recommended.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution advised during lactation; minimize use and avoid application to the breast area.
