Overview of the medicine
Magaplus-400 mg Suspension is an oral antacid and antiflatulent medication used to relieve symptoms of heartburn, indigestion, sour stomach, and gas associated with hyperacidity.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10-20 ml (2-4 teaspoonfuls) four times daily, between meals and at bedtime, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
Same as adult dose, but caution in patients with renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; accumulation of aluminum and magnesium can occur. Consult a physician for dose adjustment.
How to Take
Shake the bottle well before each use. Take orally, preferably between meals and at bedtime.
Mechanism of Action
Aluminium Hydroxide and Magnesium Hydroxide neutralize stomach acid, reducing acidity. Simethicone acts as an antifoaming agent, breaking down gas bubbles in the GI tract, thereby reducing bloating and discomfort.

Within 5-15 minutes (for antacid effect)
Excretion
Excreted primarily in feces (unabsorbed antacids). Small amounts of absorbed magnesium or aluminum are excreted renally.

Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption of Aluminium Hydroxide and Magnesium Hydroxide. Simethicone is not absorbed from the GI tract.

Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Digoxin
May decrease digoxin absorption.
Thyroid hormones
May reduce absorption of levothyroxine. Administer 4 hours apart.
Iron preparations
May decrease iron absorption.
Tetracyclines & Quinolones
Antacids can decrease the absorption of these antibiotics. Administer 2-4 hours apart.
Storage
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms may include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting. Management involves symptomatic and supportive care. In severe cases of renal impairment, hypermagnesemia or aluminum toxicity might occur requiring medical intervention.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and lactation when taken as directed for short-term relief, but consult a doctor.
