Description
Overview of the medicine
Magnamilk 400 mg Suspension is an antacid and antiflatulent medication used to relieve symptoms of heartburn, indigestion, and excess gas. It combines the acid-neutralizing properties of Aluminum Hydroxide and Magnesium Hydroxide with the defoaming action of Simethicone.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Shake well before use. 10-20 mL (2-4 teaspoonfuls) four times daily, 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required, but use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Avoid high doses or prolonged use due to potential accumulation of aluminum and magnesium, leading to hypermagnesemia or aluminum toxicity.
How to Take
Oral administration. Shake the bottle well before each use. Take between meals and at bedtime for best results.
Mechanism of Action
Aluminum and Magnesium Hydroxides neutralize stomach acid, increasing gastric pH. Simethicone reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, causing them to coalesce and be more easily expelled.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 5-10 minutes
Excretion
Excreted in feces; absorbed ions (if any) are excreted renally.
Half life
Not applicable for local action
Absorption
Aluminum and Magnesium Hydroxides are minimally absorbed systemically, primarily acting locally. Simethicone is not absorbed from the GI tract.
Metabolism
Not applicable; mainly local action, minimal systemic absorption.
